"Santa Salutes Those Who Serve Around the World"
by Franz Brown / John P Falstaff

Acrylic  30x24 inches

This was initially inspired by a desire to thank all the service women and men who serve in our armed forces. The first idea included a small mouse in a military uniform saluting with Santa and standing in his hand or shoulder. This first idea was explored some years ago. When I decided to start the painting the mouse was dropped in favor of a globe to signify both Santa’s worldwide service as well as the military’s work worldwide. Finally I felt it should honor all those who serve around the globe. I wanted there to be a sense of the globe floating. I had at first shown Asia with Iraq as the main element on the globe. I changed this to North and South America as more recognizable to the intended audience. The polar bear stands for the North Pole (as well as making my own protect the environment statement).
