Remembering Kathy
I had been doing a portrait of Kathy, a farm wife. She was weak from her struggle with cancer and was mostly confined to bed. For her picture she asked for assistance so she could sit in a chair next to the window. When I had finished I went outside to look at the farm and see what else there might be to photograph. I saw this flower struggling up in an old shed, an old screen blocking the light. Now when I see this image I also think of Kathy's struggle. She passed away a few months after I did the portrait.
